During the "Golden Age of Hollywood," theatres were an innovation, appealing to people of all ages.  Reflections of the Silver Screen: A History of Allegany County Movie Theatres, tells the story of theatres through the eyes of patrons as well as employees and owners. The concept for this book on the theatres of Allegany County evolved from an idea expressed in the 1998-1999 Social Studies Seminar course. The class teamed together to write about an important part of the history of Allegany County , a part which affected the lives of many citizens at that time.  Preserving memories of the past and sharing knowledge of theatres with future generations were the main goals of this publication. This is the second book to be produced by the Allegany High School Social Studies Department. It contains the history of twenty movie theatres of Allegany County with information obtained through primary and secondary research. The main source of information is obtained through the oral history process. Over thirty-five individuals have been interviewed and their stories are documented in the various stories of movie theatres contained within this oral history publication.
