Process:

The Oral History project at Allegany High School requires a thourough process of gaining primary and secondary sources of information. Personal accounts are recorded and utilized throughout the project to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences shared by those who served our country, or provided a deeper understanding of a particular time period. Interviews are conducted by one or two students that have researched the subject to be better aware of the content that is shared. The information gained by these interviews is the most crucial part of the book making up the oral history component The interviews are recorded by a digital camera to be used in several ways. The audio track is burned to compact disks, to be transcribed and printed by students. The video is also used for an audio visual development that is a portion of the project. The transcription are the souce of which all articles are based upon. By combining the personal experiences with historical facts, the students investigate an element if knowledge that cannont be captured without an experienced person's own account. The recollections of the men and women interviewed quide the nature of the book's content. These processes of gaining information by interviewing experts of the time, firsthand, make the Oral History project one of the most distingished works produced by students.
