After World War II, life for Americans changed dramatically. The economy began to grow and the standard of living was higher than ever before. This economic boom allowed Americans to easily afford the necessities which left more money for leisure activities. Primetime: A History of Allegany County During the 1950’s covers the huge economic, social, and Cultural Revolution, from the Korean Conflict and the rising threat of communism to the booming entertainment industry through the experiences of local residents here in Allegany County . The Social Studies Seminar course teamed together to write about an important part of the history of Allegany County , a part which affected the lives of many citizens at that time. One of the main goals of this publication was to preserve memories of the past and share knowledge of the 1950's with future generations. This is the sixth book to be produced by the Allegany High School Social Studies Department: this book contains the history of the 1950's in Allegany County with information obtained through primary and secondary research. The main source of information was obtained through the oral history process. Approximately 80 individuals have been interviewed and their stories were documented in the various compilations of this era of American history contained within this oral history publication.
